For the cover I think it's looking pretty good. I think the perspective on the ladder could be pushed a bit. I think it needs to be a bit further back from the figures in space and then tweaked so that it goes further up. Like the top of the ladder needs to fade off into space more.
Lighting, however, I like. I like that alot. Very mysterious.
I'm less in love with the interiors but I think the face planets are pretty good. In the black and white version the farther one just needs to be pushed farther into the background I think.
Could you explain what's going on with the woman in the first illustration for me though before I say anything about it?
there's a paragraph in that chapter where the narrator goes into a "wasteland of sand." Where he describes the dunes as "people reclining.." specifically he describes a figure laying down with it's arm crossing the breast and chin in an open palm.
Then I'd say that it doesn't look enough like sand dunes looking like people. Right now it just kind of looks like a figure drawn with extra lines through it. I think that if you really knocked out some sand dunes and then tweaked them to get the surrealness of the whole looking like a figure thing you could really hit this one out of the park.
